Make Your Own Capsules And Tinctures At Home – It’s Easy!

You can make your own tinctures and canna capsules using concentrated cannabis oil (CCO). This is a very economical way to medicate with cannabis, and perfect for those who don’t care to smoke or vape, as well as those who don’t want the extra calories of edibles. Besides being more economical, making your own tinctures and capsules has another advantage in that you can make your own perfect dose. Cannabis tinctures usually come in a 300ml dropper bottle, (1oz, 300ml) and can range in price from $20 to $80 per bottle, depending on the strength. Canna Caps are not readily available everywhere, and when you can find them they may not be available in your dose and the cost from $1.50 to $5 per capsule, again depending on the potency. If you have the time and inclination, you can make these product for much less cost.

For tinctures and capsules, you start the same way. Concentrated Cannabis Oil (CCO) and an edible carrier oil. You can use just about any kind of edible oil to make tinctures and capsules; coconut oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, avocado oil…and the list goes on. Some patients like tinctures made with vegetable glycerin, but it can get thick over time and oils are becoming the preferred carrier for cannabinoids. Use what ever you prefer.

Have the proper tools and storage containers on hand on hand. For tinctures you should get some dropper bottles, usually available at a health food store or online. For capsules, a one time purchase of a capsule maker, and empty capsules and some plastic pipette droppers will be needed. For both caps and tinctures an assortment of small pyrex glass beakers with pouring spouts for accurate measuring and a small silicone spatula are needed. All these items are available at low cost online.

Now all you need is your choice of edible oil and the measured syringe of concentrated cannabis oil.

When making any cannabis oil products it’s good to start out with a tray with raised sides lined with parchment paper or paper towels. A spill during the process is a real mess, so keep your work area contained. You won’t be sorry. Next you need to determine the percentage of cannabinoid you want in your final product.

Tinctures

Tinctures are easiest. We are starting with 1 syringe of 80% THC Concentrated cannabis oil (800ml or 800mg to make 4-1oz bottles of 200mg THC tincture: You can adjust this to whatever your desired dosage is.
– Measure 4oz of edible oil in a beaker and warm in a microwave.
You may also place your beaker of oil in a hot water bath to heat it up.
– add the entire 800ml of CCO to the warm oil and stir well. Pour into the dropper bottle, cap it and your done!

For a 400mg bottle of tincture, simple use half the amount of the carrier oil for a final product of 2-1oz bottles of 400mg tincture. For a 100mg bottle, simple use half the CCO in the syringe (.5ml) for a final product of 4-1oz bottles of 100mg tincture.

CannaCaps

Starting out with one 800ml (mg) CCO syringe, determine the milligram dose you want in each capsule and divide those mg into 800. Here is the formula for 20mg per capsule: 800mg in a 1 gram syringe. 800 ÷ 20(mg caps) = 40 capsules

Filling capsules with cannabis oil
Using 00 sized capsules is easy for the math because they hold .9ml per capsule. Since it is so close to 1.0 you can just round up. Multiply .9 x 40 capsules = 36ml of carrier oil. Just round up to 40. It makes a difference of less than 1% in the potency of each capsule and is easier to measure in the beaker.

– Fill the beaker with correct amount of the carrier oil and warm it up. Add the contents of the syringe and mix well.
– Load up your capsule holder with the larger end of the caps and using the pipette or a dropper, fill each cap to the top.
– Pop on the smaller half of the capsule and snap it shut. You can hear and or feel the snap when it is closed all the way.

Use this formula no matter what the percentage of cannabinoids are in your syringe. For example:
72% THC CCO = 720mg per gram of CCO (just add a zero)
720 ÷ 12mg cap (use whatever mg of cannabinoids you want in each cap) = 60 capsules
60 capsules x .9ml per cap (if you use a different size capsule, look up it’s capacity online and use that number here) = 54 mg of carrier oil. Use 55mg for easy measuring in the beaker.

This may seem a bit confusing or complicated, but after you make a batch or 2 it become second nature and is a really easy task.

These methods are the most economical ways to medicate with tinctures and canna caps. The savings are tremendous, and if you make your own CCO, FECO or RSO, it makes it even less expensive. If you purchase a gram of 80% THC CCO at Organtica the cost is $70. That seventy dollars can give you well over a month of 20mg capsules if you use one per day. 40-20mg canna caps for $1.75 each. A month of cannacaps for just over $50. That makes cannabis medicine more affordable.

On a side note, you can mix your CCO using the tincture method to make medicated oil to cook with! Mix with olive oil, peanut oil…whatever you like. Use for baking, stir fry or any recipe that requires oil. You can even add CCO to bacon fat if you save yours to use later Just melt, measure, mix and store. You can mix it with Ghee too! Fat and cannabinoids – they love each other.
