Dropper full of CBD oil and cannabis leaf viewed from above. There are quite a few reasons why knowing your proper dose of cannabis medicine is important:

Underdosing – An insufficient amount of cannabis medicine will leave you with no relief and the belief that cannabis won’t work for you. There are very few people out there who don’t respond to cannabis medicine positively, although they do exist.

Overdosing – Too much cannabis medicine may make you too high to function. Dizziness, being lightheaded, headaches and even nausea can all be side effects. Even if you just go to bed to sleep it off, you may wake up with a heavy feeling of fuzziness that may take hours to wear off. Overdosing may even exacerbate your issue by making you paranoid, anxious, short of breath, or weary, sleepy and uncoordinated. This is especially true with edibles.

Efficacy – Some patients do very well with smoking or vaping. Others do better with oral consumption in the form of edibles, and others may do best with oral sprays or sublingual tinctures. Other patient will do very well using only topical balms, salves or lotions and can’t handle being high at all. Additionally, it is not unheard of that some people get no effect at all from using edibles. Even people who prefer smoking or vaping can get themselves in trouble by using too much of a substance because they were unsure of the strength. Know what you are consuming. Vaping a concentrate that is 80% THC and smoking a preroll of 12% THC flower are two completely different experiences. Eating a 5 mg candy to get you through your morning at work is no comparison to eating a 30mg candy or consuming a 100mg chocolate brownie in order to sleep through the night. You can avoid a bad outcome if you know what is effective for you. Know your dose.

Cost – Unless you are growing your own cannabis and making your own medicine, the cost of cannabis products can make you poor. Sure, it would be nice if it was all cheap or free, but it isn’t, and health insurance won’t cover it either. So it’s best to know what dose of cannabis medicine is most effective for you. Why spend more than you have to?

When using cannabis as medicine, don’t underdose and feel miserable. Don’t overdose and feel miserable. Don’t spend too much money and feel broke. While over consuming can be fun at times, if you are using cannabis medicine to control a specific condition, or a few, or even several conditions, you really ought to know what dose is most effective for you.
