Plastic Pollution and Organtica
(A casual conversation one has with themself during covid, while smoking a fine, medical cannabis preroll.)

Remember that story about the Sea Turtle with a straw stuck in his nose? Millions of us saw this stress, struggle and pain caused by ocean pollution. Six years later, what has become of it? Not much if you’re that turtle.

I’m a medical cannabis patient, and like many, many patients, I consume a lot of pre-rolls. They are a great value, convenient, and allow me to try multiple strains without spending a lot of cash. After a while, used preroll containers and packaging start to pile up and pose a tricky recycling dilemma. After all, very few of these buggers are made out of the type of plastic that our recycling facilities can accept, and as a result they end up in the land fills. Sure, I try to save a few tubes to use later when I go out and, want to make sure my precious cargo doesn’t get crushed in my pocket. Eventually though, the cheap plastic wears out, cracks and it gets tossed into the trash anyway. Not a good thing.

Here are some very interesting stories to get you thinking about this problem and solutions…

John Oliver Explains Plastic Pollution Like No Other!

I just watched this recently and it really hit home. What can you do to help the plastic problem. Plastic is in everything, from the clothes we wear to the water we drink. On the HBO Series, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, John explains how plastics are harming the planet, why recycling isn’t the solution we think it is, and why fixing the problem is not just up to consumers, but to corporations and policymakers. This is definitely worth your time to view, so check it out here on YouTube.Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

How Much Does Amazon Contribute To Worldwide Plastic Pollution?

Not to bash Amazon, but I was shocked to learn how much plastic pollution is generated by the mega retailer. Just to open your eyes to the scale of things, check out this article from Forbes to see the impact one company can have on the planet. And, just imagine what could happen if that company reduced its plastic waste by 20%. That would be pretty impactful and go a long way to help us out of this mess. Just saying, we’ve got a big problem that is only getting bigger. Please take the time to check this out. It’s a very interesting read.

So, what can be done about it? How can we all help?

One day last spring, I ran into an article about a cannabis packaging firm that teamed up with a global recycling company with the intent to manufacture durable pre-roll cases made from plastics reclaimed from the ocean. I had to check it out and see if it was legit and if I could get my hands on a couple to try out. So, I tracked down PAQCASEand had them send out a couple sample for evaluation. I went through the website at Oceanworks, (oceanworks.co) and read about the incredible work they are doing around the globe to make a positive impact on ocean plastic pollution. Many months later I still have the sample they sent and, I continue to use it to this day. In fact, the sample PAQCASE and I have been on many adventures together, and all this time it has never failed me.

What makes a PAQCASE so special? It has a firm child proof lid that secures a special gasket that completes the seal of the rugged case. This makes it :

•  smell proof
•  water resistant
•  humidity buffered
•  crush proof
•  fits five fatty, king sized prerolls all snug-like
and most importantly
•  made out of reclaimed ocean plastic.

I know right?!? These cases are the perfect solution to a couple of things I care very deeply about; helping curb ocean plastic pollution and protecting my beautiful prerolls! Important stuff.

It took us several months to get an order figured out and receive our first batch, but it sure was worth the wait! Available soon at all Organtica Clinics, drop by and pickup your certified Ocean Plastic Preroll Case and help save our planet. These very special cases will be released on Earth Day, April 22.
